Unreached and Unengaged!

What is a People Group Anyway?

People Group – an ethnolinguistic group with a common self-identity that is shared by the various members. There are two parts to that word: ethno, and linguistic. Language is a primary and dominant identifying factor of a people group. But there are other factors that determine or are associated with ethnicity.

Unengaged Unreached People Groups (UUPGs) - A people group is unreached when the number of Evangelical Christians is less than 2% of its population. It is further called unengaged when there is no church planting methodology consistent with Evangelical faith and practice under way. A people group in not engaged when it has been merely adopted, is the object of focused prayer, or is part of an advocacy strategy.

Affinity Groups – large groupings of related people groups that share similar origins, languages and cultures.

Church Planting Movements – A simple, concise definition of a Church Planting Movement (CPM) is a rapid and multiplicative increase of indigenous churches planting churches within a given people group or population segment.

Drop In The Ocean

John Durham, Honduras GO Team leader, shares a comment that reflects the need in Honduras:  ”The needs here are so great. Pastor (Acosta) said, ‘giving a plate of food is like a drop in the ocean.’  They are so thankful and hungry for the gospel.”

The team returns to Henry County Saturday, February 26, inspired and ready to share the hope of the Gospel with people they encounter week in and week out in their home context!

God’s mercy and love for us has no end.

Here is a powerful, encouraging testimony from our partner church in Lebanon of God’s great love for all His people and His desire that no one perish.

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

God’s mercy and love for us has no end. As long as we look at the cross we can see God’s love through our Lord Jesus Christ. How wonderful to be saved from sin, the old nature and eternal condemnation!!! We are saved through Jesus blood by faith, not by the power of our deeds and religious acts, only by God’s grace!

My heart is filled with joy because God’s salvation is God’s miracle in our lives in changing a sinner, a dead man to become part of God’s family and have the eternal life. What a great joy and blessing to be part of God’s family.

Over the last 2 Sundays, I had a burden to share about God’s love and salvation during our Sunday morning services. So I followed God’s lead and shared from Matthew 11:25-30

“At that time Jesus said, I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do. All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

During that service an old man named “Aziz” (80 years old) was present, listening to every word I was sharing, I could notice in his eyes and face that he was captured by the word of God. At the of the message, as I lead the congregation in prayers to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, “Aziz” was praying in a loud voice. He was smiling and I could notice the joy in his heart. (more…)

Another Great Day!

Another great day! We did a play to help the kids understand who Jesus is. In this village, there are Mormon, Jehovah Witness and evangelical churches, so these kids have received some mixed messages. We spent a lot of time with them this morning and now they have a clear picture of who Jesus is. The time spent with the parents was perfect. They were hungry for the food that we gave them, but mostly, they were hungry for the gospel. Tomorrow, we are spending some of the money on more food for another village, we have already given so much away. Also, we are going to the hospital tomorrow. Families, with no money, are living in the halls while their children are in the hospital. They have no money for food, hotel, or travel. The little money that they might have for food, they save to pay for medicine. These people are starving in the halls of the hospital. This hospital is only equipped for 400 people per day, but sees about 2000. We will be giving meals to these families, praying with them, and giving them love and hope through the gospel.

The Latest News From Panama Team, December

Email received from Cary Phillips, team leader:

We got on a bus in Changuinola at 6pm last night and arrived in PC this morning at 5am…  It was a long bus ride but we are glad to be back! After breakfast and a real shower, the team doesn’t know what to think, haha!

It was an amazing week, and we were able to share the gospel door-to-door with families throughout the village. There is no doubt that God is at work in that village and we are glad to be a part of it. The people received us and the message of Christmas and the Gospel of Jesus Christ despite of false teaching that is taking place there. We are praying that the Holy Spirit spreads the good news and the Word of God throughout the village and in the hearts of the people. He is the one that changes people lives, hearts, and minds. I can’t wait to give a full report, and we are excited about what God did while we were there. Christmas is a great time to tell the good news of Jesus birth, and death.

The team did a fantastic job and in a very rough setting. We trudged through muddy slopes up and down hills in the rain at times to share the gospel door-to-door, and when we were not visiting homes, the kids would join us in the school compound to play with us. Often, we were ready for a break, but knowing our time was limited we played with the kids while we could. Some of the regulars pretty much stayed the entire time, except when we were sleeping.

Everyone is doing well. We are planning to rest and spend some time in PC today, and we travel home tomorrow.
