A glimpse of recent events at Luz y Verdad

Phil & Jami Covone:

For the last few months of our ministry, we have seen God at work all around us. At Luz y Verdad, families are experiencing salvation and baptism, and are growing in the faith. Some are taking on new roles; such as leading worship and teaching Bible studies.

Four people have followed Christ in baptism in the last three months. This is a big step for people who were traditionally raised to be baptized as infants. Please pray that God will continue to draw people to Himself and teach them about a relationship with Jesus, rather than a “religion”.

As church planters, we were trained by North American Mission Board to target the “unsaved, unchurched” in our community and to teach and lead them, until the Lord “added to our number”. Praise the Lord for the spiritual growth at Luz y Verdad!

We are amazed as God has shown us His work in Honduras, through Good Samaritan Baptist Mission. We had the privilege of traveling there in November, as Phil was asked to speak at five Good Samaritan Christian school graduations, including the Bible Institute. On our last night in San Marcos de Colon, Phil led a revival service for the Good Samaritan staff. We also visited several Feed the Hungry Kitchens and met many local church planters. We will lead a student mission team from Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy to this area in April 2011.

Celebrating Christ at Deer Creek

On Saturday, December 11, members from Eagle’s Landing First Baptist cooked a meal, complete with smoked turkey and all the fixings! They brought the food, tables, chairs and more to serve the people of Deer Creek Mobile Home Park. The kids loved the puppet show by the ELFBC student ministry! Luz y Verdad members helped serve and invited people to church.

A special thank you from Luz y Verdad: to Alan & Ming Richardson, along with Darren & Sarah Hughes and the many others for the hours of hard work and planning they put into this event!

Right in Our Own Back Yard! Luz y Verdad

It is simply amazing how God can use you right in your own back yard! or in this case, Stockbridge, just a few miles away from our home church! We were so excited to spend our weekend with Luz y Verdad. Many members from our eagles landing body went to enjoy the out-reach to the spanish community. The evening kicked off with face painting, music, skits, and food! All ages showed up to enjoy the fun and by the end off the evening the lawn was sprinkled with eager faces.

Everyone was in on all of the excitement and many opportunities to share the gospel were presented. While the sun began to set over the trees, voices quieted and a well known spanish gospel group, Samaritan Revival, began an incredible time of worship. Hands lifted high and true praises to our king, Jesus Christ were evident that first evening. Tony Nolan spoke after the sweet time of worship and openly shared his story and his love for the Savior. The presence of the Holy Spirit was truly present and by the end of his honest proclamation of faith the alter, or in this case, the grass below the stage, collected a handful of those who had trusted their lives to Christ. A short time of celebration and encouragement followed the service. We were all filled with joy as we watched some of our new friends become our new brothers and sisters!

Never assume that there is not a mission to be had in your own “back yard”! The time we spent with Luz y Verdad was a true blessing and a little piece of how great our God is. We can not wait to see how God continues to use Luz y Verdad! ELFBC is excited to continue partnering with such a strong light within the community and we know that HIS word is increasing there with a strength previously unknown!

1027 Visits Eagle’s Landing!

Tim and Pam Wolfe visited Eagle’s Landing Wednesday, June 2, to share their story in church planting. They are currently serving as church planters at 1027 Church in Midtown Atlanta. 1027, which is six years old, is one of our 20 Points of Light partners.  They are actively involved in a partnership with the Atlanta Food Bank. Tim challenged us to do the same. That was the intention for the night as we were prepared to go into local communities and invite our neighbors to join us and Helping In His Name Food Pantry in helping meet the Henry County need. Rain and thunderstorms kept us from doing that but did not dampen the enthusiasm as most left with bags to distribute and fill with non-perishable food items!
