Sunday in Arizona

The Arizona GO Team had a good day! We were encouraged as we worshipped with the members of First Papago Baptist Church in Sells. The team is being housed on the campus of the church. After lunch, the two groups went to visit homes in Santa Rosa and Kaka. We’re looking forward to ministry beginning Monday morning!

We met brothers Matthew, Maverick and Thunder who are training for a wrestling tournament and were able to pray for them.

Thanks for praying.

Arizona GO Team On The Ground!

After one plane ride and a two hour van ride through the desert, the Arizona GO Team is on the ground – safe and sound! The team will be working with One Way Ministries and First Papago Baptist Church this week. The team will be conducting Vacation Bible School in the mornings and a Sports Camp in the afternoon. Part if the team will work in a warm and receptive village named Santa Rosa while the other group will work in Kaka (pronounced “gaka”), which is more remote and closed to the Gospel. In fact, JT Turner of One Way described the village as being “spiritually dark.”

Please pray for spiritual breakthroughs and boldness as the teams share in both communities. The sports outreach will take place in Sells.

Weekly Wisdom from Jason Byers at Celebration! Church in Ottawa

Jason, Carrie and Caleb

weekly wisdom

This is a column written by Jason Byers, the church planter up at Celebration! Church in Ottawa, Canada.  Drop Jason an email if you’d like to receive regular updates on what God is doing up there! Go to the church website, check it out and then drop him a message.  His email is listed there.

Now, here’s Jason’s weekly wisdom:

Alright, so I admit that I’m a little biased, but this past Sunday’s worship service was AWESOME!

Good fellowship, good music, and quite frankly, it doesn’t get much better than settling knee-deep into GRACE and HOLINESS!  I praise God for a Saviour to whose chest we can draw near and hear the heartbeat of the Almighty, and before whose feet we can fall in reverent fear for He is the Glorified Messiah.  Only in exploring and beginning to understand our salvation in light of these qualities of Jesus are we transformed from the inside out and also prepared to be a transforming agent in the world around us!

I am worshipfully thankful to be standing under grace and to be called unto holiness with you.  Now, from this common standing, I’m excited to continue exploring our common calling.  This Sunday we’ll be kicking off a sermon series on Identity: Who am I? Who is He? Who are We? Through it we’ll look to Scripture and prayer in order to more fully grasp our place in Christ and our role in our Community.  In preparation, I share this encouraging passage from Colossians 3:1-4

Since then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.  Set you minds on things above, not on earthly things.  For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.  When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. (bold mine)

Feel free to keep reading the rest of the chapter for some of Paul’s inspired instructions for holy living!  I hope to see you Sunday.

For the sake of the Name,

Jason

Appalachia

What stretches from Mississippi all the way up to southern New York and is home to over 23 million people? Birthplace of Daniel Boone, Davy Crockett and Archie Baker? Appalachia! Eagle’s Landing has sent a couple of Bold Mission Builders volunteer teams over the last two years to Appalachia. We are hopeful to send a GO Team there real soon.

Pray for the right connections and watch for details to be posted here!

Sunny Southern California

Jeff & Shelly Langley, Cloudbreak Church

elevate san diego

Kevin & Susan Campbell, Elevate Church

San Diego is home to two church plants that Eagle’s Landing has been supporting:  Cloudbreak Church and Elevate Church.  God is using both churches to impact the city of San Diego and beyond with His great love.

Interestingly enough, both of these churches have Georgia connections!  Jeff Langley, pastor of Cloudbreak, went to the University of Georgia and Kevin Campbell was a staff member at Midway Church in Villa Rica! Jeff is definitely a DAWG fan but what about Kevin?  He’s from North Carolina.  Yep, a Tar Heel! No matter if you agree or disagree with them on their college team selections, join them in praying for the city of San Diego!

From Georgia to Ottawa, Canada!

ottawa

Jason and Carrie Byers are in Ottawa, Canada planting a church.  But there not Canadians – at least not native Canadians! These guys are from?  You guessed it! Atlanta! Pretty cool – especially during the winter!

Celebration Church, Ottawa, Canada, celebrates the greatness of God by knowing Christ and making Him known.  Their various ministries provide avenues of service within the church, within the community and around the world. Eagle’s Landing is joining hands with Jason, Carrie and the Celebration family to reach people for Christ. We’re not sure what that looks like, but you know one thing you can do for them now, don’t you? Yep! Pray!

Me? A Boston Fan?

Hey, it’s OK to be a Boston fan if you’re in Atlanta!

We’re not talking baseball here – we’re talking about loving the city of Boston through a new church plant! Boston will be home to a new church soon:  Redemption Hill Church.  Calling people to the Gospel, to live in community and to be a part of the mission of God will be their three core values. The church planting team is not even on the ground yet, but that doesn’t mean there is nothing for us, as one of their partners to do!  Pray.  Lift Tanner Turner and his team up to the Lord now!  They will be moving to Boston in the next few months.

We’re looking forward to playing some small role in what God wants to do through Redemption Hill in Boston!

Drive Across The Desert Raises More Than Dust

Fifty-plus drivers and passengers left various staging areas near Arizona’s Tohono O’odham nation one Saturday last November, following assigned routes through some 200 miles of a challenging landscape speckled with cactus, sagebrush and wild stallions south of Phoenix and west of Tucson.
