1027 Visits Eagle’s Landing!

Tim and Pam Wolfe visited Eagle’s Landing Wednesday, June 2, to share their story in church planting. They are currently serving as church planters at 1027 Church in Midtown Atlanta. 1027, which is six years old, is one of our 20 Points of Light partners.  They are actively involved in a partnership with the Atlanta Food Bank. Tim challenged us to do the same. That was the intention for the night as we were prepared to go into local communities and invite our neighbors to join us and Helping In His Name Food Pantry in helping meet the Henry County need. Rain and thunderstorms kept us from doing that but did not dampen the enthusiasm as most left with bags to distribute and fill with non-perishable food items!

Bold Mission Builders: Getting It Done In Thomson!

Jason Houston, Vic Williams and Mike Dwyer

Progress by Friday Evening

Progress as of Friday Evening

Eagle’s Landing has a group of men and women in Thomson, Georgia at this very moment!  Why?  They have formed a framing team to work on a youth ministry building at Marshall Baptist Church.  Where is Thomson, anyway?  The town is located just outside of Augusta off of I-20.  All of this is part of a project that is being guided by Bold Mission Builders.  Eagle’s Landing has sent several BMB teams to do similar work.

Way to go, guys!

Vietnamese Easter Celebration

The Henry Vietnamese  Mission celebrated Easter during the morning but, oh, Sunday night! They hosted an outreach event to the Vietnamese community and was it a great success!  Over 100 people attended!  Several people decided to become followers of Christ! Several others decided they would get serious about their relationship with the Lord! After a wonderful service, there was a fellowship and awesome food!

Pastor Ban and his leadership team did a wonderful job!

Did You Know?

Pastor Ban

Did you know that there is a Vietnamese mission church meeting at Eagle’s Landing?  Well, we do!  Pastor Ban is the leader.  They are doing a wonderful job.  They meet at 11:00 on the 600 Hallway in the main building on Sunday mornings.  Heatherwood Baptist Church in Riverdale is their “mother church.”

So, if you’re on the 600 Hallway on a Sunday morning around 11:00, take a minute to give these wonderful people a welcome!

Making a Difference in Ellijay

The Orchard Church is a new church in Ellijay whose goal is to reach people that nobody is reaching by doing things that nobody is doing.  Loving God, loving others and making disciples is what they are all about.  Steve Dusek is the pastor of The Orchard.  He and his wife, Sherry, are church planters.  Eagle’s Landing was introduced to Steve by Drew Mehta, graphic designer at Eagle’s Landing.  They worked together at Global Youth Ministry.

We are glad to be on The Orchard team!

‘Paupers’ Passings Don’t Go Unremarked

Pastor Clifton Dawkins of True Worship Christian Fellowship also serves as assistant chaplain for Fulton County. One of his duties in this role is to perform funerals for the homeless and poor of the county.  He has officiated hundreds of these funerals.  The AJC featured an article that explains.

True Worship Christian Fellowship

Clifton Dawkins is Pastor of the True Worship Fellowship Church, located just south of I-20 in urban Atlanta.  He was attending a meeting at the Georgia Baptist Convention in the fall of 2009.  Pastor Tim Dowdy, Cary Phillips and Brian Shuler heard that the building the church meets in didn’t have any heat.  They decided Eagle’s Landing should do something about it!  So, the connection was made.  A week or so later, Brian, Cary, Jon Shoemaker and Bruce Mewbourne met with Pastor Clifton and his wife to discuss what needed to happen.  The Eagle’s Landing guys left that meeting encouraged by the faithfulness of the Dawkins and convinced that there were ways to help.  The church building is now heated.

True Worship Christian Fellowship Church is a faith family that worships together and reaches out together in a variety of ways.  Looking forward to fruitful partnering with some of God’s choice servants!

The Church at Griffin

Wikipedia reports that “Doc” Holiday was born in Griffin, Georgia.  Bernard Miller was, too.  Griffin:  the once thriving mill town.  Thriving mill town?  Not anymore. Many of the mills that provided much of the employment for the residents of Griffin have shut down – laid off workers.  Distressed economic conditions in the city have resulted in high unemployment as well as more undesirable problems like drugs.

Bernard?  Right!  Bernard Miller.  He’s still in Griffin.  In fact, he is the pastor of  “The Church at Griffin”,  which was the first African-American church planted in the Flint River Baptist Association.  This dynamic faith family is centered on God’s Word and is actively reaching out to the Griffin area and beyond with Bernard out front!  Pastor Miller serves as the president of the African American Fellowship of Georgia Baptists.  This man is loved by those he leads (and he leads by example) as well as those in the community.

The Church at Griffin partners with Rushton’s Hope, too – one of Eagle’s Landing’s local Points of Light.
