Serving With True Worship Christian Fellowship

We are excited to serve alongside this faith family!

Pastor Clifton (Clif) Dawkins leads True Worship to serve a meal to people living on the streets of Atlanta every Saturday.

Here are some notes to help us help them:

  • Park in the large parking lot where we will be serving.  Feel free to pay for the parking though it is not expected due to what we are doing.  Paying is a good way for us to help True Worship as they continue to use this lot.
  • If you are taking children, please watch them closely – this is a tough neighborhood in downtown Atlanta!
  • Talk with your children, whatever their age.  Help them to be sensitive and compassionate as they serve the hurting and homeless – they will follow your lead.
  • As the people form a line to receive the meal and anything else that will be given, engage them in conversation. This is the best time as many will leave once they have received their meal.  Ask to hear their story or ask how they are doing – be ready to listen and encourage. Your words will have power, so make the most of these encounters. We want them to know that what they are receiving is absolutely free and is given without any “strings attached”, and that our service is meant to show them God’s love and kindness.  Your actions will show this as well as the words you use.
  • Ask how you might pray for them – then pray with them.
  • Remember, these are real people with real feelings.  The words you use will encourage or discourage – introduce yourself by name and ask them theirs.  Do not refer to them as “the homeless”.
  • It is very possible that you will be asked for money – the best practice is to politely decline.
  • If there is a situation that you feel is getting out of hand, seek out Pastor Clif, one of his leaders or an Eagle’s Landing leader.  We don’t anticipate this will happen.
  • Be very careful if you bring a camera.  Ask permission before taking a picture.  In fact, it would be best not to take any. Any pictures taken must be done so sensitively and with discretion.
  • Remember that we are assisting True Worship.  What we do will help them or hurt them as they minister weekly.  Let’s make sure we HELP them.

Thank you for serving!
